Telephone line being recorded

Just to let you know that following our telephone line upgrade, calls are now being recorded for training and quality purposes

Telephone line upgrade on February 8th - disruption to service when closed

As you may know ISDN lines (which we currently use at the practice) are being phased out, so we need to move across to a newer type of telephone line. This will also mean that our telephone system software will need upgrading.

During this time our telephone system will be unavailable to us. To minimise disruption for us all, our telephone provider has kindly agreed to do this update from 6am in the morning so that we can be up and running for when we start to take telephone calls at 8am.

This will happen on Friday 8th February. If you cannot get through to our telephone number when we are closed, the number for patients who need immediate medical  attention is 02920 444500

Hopefully we will be up and running for our normal opening hours, but if you do experience any problems getting through and have a problem that cannot wait please come to the surgery.

Thank you for your understanding

New Travel Service

Have you, or are you thinking of booking a holiday overseas this year?

Did you know that travel immunisations should be given ideally 4-8 weeks before travel?

From Monday 11th February, we are changing our travel vaccination service and we will no longer be booking travel vaccination appointments into routine nursing clinics. Instead, there will be a dedicated travel vaccination clinic on the first Tuesday afternoon of each month from 2-6 pm. The first travel clinic will be on March 5th.

As the holiday season is approaching, you are advised to plan ahead and to consider vaccinations when you book your holiday as there are a limited number of appointments available at our travel clinic. Should you book a last minute holiday we would recommend you contact one of the travel clinics in Cardiff for advice/vaccination pre travel.

We are thrilled  to announce that Dr Emily Watkin is joining the practice as a salaried GP on the 9th January 2019

Dr Watkin completed the final stages of her GP training at the practice so she will be a familiar face to many of you

She completed her training at the end of 2019 to become a fully qualified GP.

We are delighted that she has agreed to join us at Ely Bridge and we look forward to continue working with her

As you may have seen, we now send text message reminders for appointments (they are sent the evening before the appointment). We have also started sending reminder messages by text to book appointments for flu clinics and in the future will be sending reminders to book for diabetic and other clinics.

We have had positive feedback about this service. We would be grateful if you would share your mobile number with us and also let us know if it changes, just like you would let us know if any of your details change.

You can opt out (and back in) to this service whenever you like, so if you want to let us have your mobile number but do not want these reminders, this is not a problem, just let the receptionist know who will complete a short form for the admin team

We will be closed on the afternoon of Tuesday 9th January for an educational update session for our doctors and nurses. Out of hours will cover us for anything that cannot wait until the next day. A list of these sessions can be found here.

Thank you for your understanding

Cancellation of Baby Clinic Thursday 28th December

There will be NO baby clinic on Thursday 28th December. Invitations to baby clinic were sent out in error by Child Health so if your baby/child has been sent for to attend on the 28th, you should be receiving a cancellation of appointment by post and your appointment will be rescheduled.  If you attend the surgery on that day, your baby/child will not be vaccinated.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused but this was out of our control. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year and should you have any queries, please can you contact the Practice Nurses at the surgery.

We are delighted to announce that Dr Danielle Harris and Dr Jordan Edwards are joining the practice as salaried GPs on the 8th August and 4th September respectively.

We are thrilled that these excellent young GPs have agreed to join us at Ely Bridge and we look forward to working with them

Dr Thompson retired at the end of June. He has been at the surgery for 30 years and until recently has been Senior Partner.

We will miss him, but wish him a long and happy retirement

Dr York will also be leaving us as he is relocating away from Cardiff

We are sad to see him go, but we know that he will make a great success in his new home

We are sure that you will join us in wishing them both well

That of course leaves us very short of doctors, but we are lucky in securing the services of new doctors to join us in August and September. More news to come on this when the details have been completed

We will do our best to secure good locum GPs to cover the shortfall
